Hodak’s Family Restaurant

Welcome back, Foodies! I apologize that it has been so long since I posted! A lot has been going on these past few weeks and it has been hard for me to keep up! But, THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR FOOD! This week, my family all finally had a little down time to spend with each other and we decided to go try the famous

Family Restaurant. Hodak’s is a family owned restaurant that has been serving Saint Louis year after year since 1962! Located in between Tower Grove East and Soulard area, this chicken place is well worth the drive! My dad was the one who suggested the place, so I suppose I need to give him a quick shout out for being in the know about where all the good chicken is in Saint Louis. Voted the best chicken in Saint Louis, this place is honestly a great little spot for lunch or dinner with your family. With the renovations they had, it is now the size of a full restaurant and a full bar as well! Even though it was my first time there, my Dad has been to Hodak’s a few times and he says he enjoys their service and the style of restaurant. The restaurant was decorated with nothing other than…you guessed it! Chickens! It was cute to see all the Saint Louis style things that were implemented into the restaurant as well, such as our flag, pictures of our sports teams and of course, the arch!

Now for the important stuff! The Food! I know I say this about a lot of chicken, you guys, but THIS was honestly some of the best chicken that has ever passed my lips! Of course, I ordered the chicken strips that me and my youngest sister Victoria split! It was a heaping order of chicken strips! As our sides we got french fries and macaroni and cheese! My Mom and Dad split a fried chicken dinner meal, which came with half a golden fried chicken, and got sides of coleslaw and onion rings!

Victoria and I had these delicious, crispy golden on the outside, chicken strips. They were fried to perfection. When you bit into the chicken you could hear the crunch of the outside, which is exactly how every chicken strip should be! We got a sweet barbecue dipping sauce, because we love to dip any kind of food in barbeque! Victoria said that her chicken was so good she wanted to order a whole other meal of it to take home for later! The french fries at Hodak’s were crinkle cut fries that were a nice golden color as well. Of course, Victoria and I dipped our fries into the sauce as well, and it gave it a nice tang! Themac and cheese was very thick and and cheesy! Some of the best mac I have had in a while! My parents ate a wing, a leg, a thigh, and who knows what else! My Mom said it was some of the best fried chicken she has ever had! Then again, she is probably just comparing that to KFC, so I am sure it would be better! My Dad said that the coleslaw, which I personally do not care for, was delicious and he basically ate it all before my Mom could even get a bit in! How rude of him! But I guess when something is that good you just want it all too yourself, which is how my Mom was with the onion rings! Just like the french fries, the onion rings were super crispy and crunchy! I tried a bite before my Mom could finish them all, and the batter that they use to fry them in, is so delicious; something that I feel like I have not really tasted before and hard to put into words what it taste like. Overall the entire meal was basically a 10/10 from everyone in my family! We all highly recommend trying Hodak’s Family Restaurant!
